Sir Elton John’s Once In A Lifetime exclusive Australian concert series has today been met with unprecedented demand, with all four shows selling out on the first day of on sale. Within 8 minutes of going on sale to the general public, Elton’s Hobart show, the most intimate of the four-concert series, completely sold out. The outdoor stadium shows in Wollongong, Mackay and Cairns followed suit, with fans snapping up tickets in a matter of minutes. More than 50,000 tickets have been sold across the four concerts. Michael Chugg, possibly the ballsiest promoter in Australia and affectionately known as ‘Chuggi’ amongst the ranks, has done it again, taking one of the world’s most iconic and beloved artists to the people of regional Australia and breaking records in the process.
The stadium concerts in Mackay, Wollongong and Cairns are first time ever visits to those cities and the largest music events ever to be hosted in these venues, whilst the Hobart concert marks a 27 year return of Elton to play in the intimate Derwent Entertainment Centre. Michael Chugg said “This has been a phenomenal result for an artist much loved by all Australians. Elton really wanted to play to audiences where he had rarely travelled and the excitement was huge from the day that the tour was announced.
From one end of Australia to another the Elton John magic is infectious, with audiences young and old keen to be a part of these spectacular concert events. We are all blown away by the sales results. It is now my job to negotiate with Elton to see if there is a chance of any more concerts dates on this tour.”
