Forest Fire Management Victoria issue fines across the Mallee

Forest Fire Management Victoria have called for locals to follow the rules of campfire safety - after officials issued a number of infringement notices in our region.

Three notices totaling $1452 were issued for two unattended campfires near Mildura.

An escaped campfire has been discovered as the cause of a small blaze at Merbein Common in recent weeks, offiicals issuing $484 infringement notices to two Queensland couples.

A South Australian man has also been fined for failing to comply with regulations, leaving his campfire unattended at Watts bend near Red Cliffs.

Campers are being reminded to use a purpose built fireplace where provided, or light campfires in a pit at least 30 cm deep.

Branches and logs must be less than 1 metre long when used for camp fires, locals reminded to never leave a campfire alight or unattended.
