Two Evacuation Centres Set Up As Bushfire Continues To Cause Havoc

Two evacuation centres have been put in place for those who have been forced out of their homes due to the raging bushfires in south-west Sydney.

Moorebank Sports Club, 230 Heathcote Road, Hammondville and Gymea Tradies Club, 57 Manchester Road, Gymea are currently housing anyone who has been evacuated while also fuelling the courageous emergency service teams that are currently battling the fires.

The bushfire has currently ripped through more than 1000 hectares and has come to within 20 metres of homes and train stations.

Despite the efforts of firefighters overnight, the status of the fire was upgraded to 'Emergency level' with residents being told it's too late to leave and warned to take shelter.

Embers are currently giving emergency services the most amount of grief as they are creating spot fires some 25 kilometres from the initial site.
