The North Sydney Council is yet to take action in the Waverton children's playground, with the Mayor unable to explain why soil testing at the Euroka Street Playground has taken such a long time.

It was such to children and fitness groups in March this year, however there remains just metal mesh fencing surrounding the playground.

It is understood that 'bonded asbestos' has been found in the soil.

“Remediation works have found the extent of the problem after the testing of soil samples,” a council spokesperson has said said.

The works have been given an urgent status, with the playground to remain closed until completed.
