Triple M's Adam Gilchrist has explained how his nicknames 'Eric' and 'Churchy' came about on a 1997 tour of England, and it's a hilarious story!

GILLY EXPLAINS HIS NICKNAME:

Straight after finding out the origin of Greg Blewett's nickname - "Blewie, short for Blewett" - Willowtalk host Mark Howard decided to grill Gilchrist on where his nickname came from.

"It's one of the great stories of nicknames, yours, because it's quite an obscure one," he said.

So Gilly explained where the two nicknames originated on an Ashes tour in 1997, where he was the backup wicketkeeper.

"There was a game down at Gloucestershire at Bristol, and we were walking around the ground, I was walking around the ground with Steve Waugh and Glenn McGrath.

The trio were walking around the ground when they ran into a kid, whose interaction prompted a nickname that's stuck with him for over 20 years.

It had Howie and Blewie in stitches!

"Of course, that gets taken back to the team and away it went!" he laughed.

"It's either Eric or Churchy!"
