One of the most infamous moments in the recently history between Hawthorn and Essendon is Matthew Lloyd’s massive hit on Brad Sewell in round 22, 2009.
The game was essentially an early elimination final, with the winner snatching eighth spot.
Essendon were trailing by 22 points at half time, and Lloyd decided he’d make a statement by imposing himself physically on the contest.
He came steaming off the line and cannoned into Sewell, who was knocked out.
